When you consume carbohydrates the body turns them into glucose and it enters the bloodstream to be carried to the body’s cells for use as fuel. If blood glucose peaks too high insulin, a hormone is produced to get the excess out of the blood, and if not needed for energy to put it into fat storage.
Insulin resistance occurs when the body becomes insensitive to insulin. Even more insulin is required to reduce the blood glucose peaks.
